| Nova Scotia is renouned for its hospitality and heritage. It is the most populous of the four Atlantic provinces of Canada, but still has less than a million inhabitants. Historically most were involved with the sea, either in fishing or shipbuilding - more than a few of the great British Naval ships used Nova Scotia timber and expertise.
These days with the demise of cod, people have turned to tourism and that is only to the visitors' benefit as there are now plenty of ways to entertain yourself on holiday. Choose from whale watching, golf, tidal bore rafting, hiking and exploring the rich cultural heritage - including great restaurants and cafes.
Geographically, Nova Scotia consists of Cape Breton Island in the north which is the most northerly end of the Appalachian Chain and a peninsula of largely flat terrain.
