The national park and historic site of Kejimkujik is 45 minutes from Annapolis Royal. It includes a mosaic of Arcadian forests and hills, wetlands, bogs, waterways with waterfalls, lagoon systems, lakeshore and coastal habitats, and beaches of white granite beachsand. It is host to many research programmes, and whether you like to travel in your car, kayak the river ways, cross country ski, cycle, jog, or walk the many trails, the diverse landscape with its scenic vistas are sure to inspire you. For a scenic drive take Route 8.

The park protects the natural beauty of south west Nova Scotia and the history of the Mu’hikmore cultural landscape. It covers 381 square kilometers of inland region and 22 square kilometers of coast - the Coastal Adjunct near Port Joli. This biodiversity hotspot protects a collection of rare species and has the greatest diversity of amphibians and reptiles in Atlantic Canada. It is home to black bears, numerous frogs, loons, rock seals, white tailed deer, beavers, slaty skimmer dragonflies, turtles, southern flying squirrels, moose, coyote, piping plovers and bobcat.

It also offers much to do all year round: canoeing, kayaking and swimming; biking, hiking, camping and backpacking; turtle and other research projects and information points; finding pertroglyphs and exploring traditional encampments and canoe routes with a Mi’kmaw guide; and at night - the Perseid meteor shower.
