| Annapolis Royal and surrounding area are of huge importance in the history of Canada. The first Scottish settlers in North America landed in Annapolis Royal and Clare, the heart of Arcadie. The town itself has a wealth of museums, festivals and historic buildings.
It has nine award winning guided walking tours that cover all areas of interest.
The Black Loyalist Heritage Site in Birchtown near Shelburne celebrates some of Canada’s first black settlers, many of them former slaves fleeing America and hoping for freedom and a better life.
Port Royal was the first European settlement in Canada. It's now a national historic site with a reconstruction of the original French settlement begun in 1605.
Also visit the Historic Arcadian Village and the Arcadian Museum and Archives in West Pubnico.
There is also the Settlers Museum in Mahone Bay.
Lunenberg is a UNESCO World Heritage site, designated as the best surviving example of a British colonial settlement in North America.
